This photo montage highlights Full Circle Campus Food Pantry’s recognition at the White House and the Alternative Spring Break: Dream BIG camp. It was a very inspiring & motivational 9 days starting March 14th, 2012 going into Spring Break. A whirlwind of events and life changing moments that the Volunteer Action Center will never forget. Thank you to all who have supported us. This would not be possible without you.
Full Circle is a food assistance program on the University of Arkansas Campus that was established in February 2011.
Alternative Spring Break: Dream BIG (Believing In Girls) is an empowerment camp for young females between 7th – 12th grade from Marvell/Elaine, AR.
Thank you so much for everyone’s help in placing our pantry into 2nd place out of 1,400 other campus programs in the nation in the White House Campus Champions of Change Challenge! Some representatives will be heading to D.C. on March 15th to present the program and it’s mission to the President! Congratulations Full Circle!
It is a very exciting time for the Volunteer Action Center and our program, Full Circle Campus Food Pantry right now. Last week, our office received a call from the White House about Full Circle’s opportunity to attend the Campus Champions of Change event in Washington D.C. Our food pantry was chosen as one of the fifteen semi-finalists out of 1,400 applications! Now we need YOUR help to get Full Circle to D.C. We need to have the top 5 most votes by Saturday, March 3rd at 10:59 PM. We encourage you to use all 3 of your votes and to share this message with all your friends and family.
Full Circle celebrated its one year anniversary on February 7th, 2011 as the first campus pantry to open in the SEC. It has served over 2,200 University of Arkansas students, faculty, staff, and their families. We are very proud of this program and excited that it will be here to serve future generations of Razorbacks!
Please help us send Julia Lyon, Full Circle Chair, to the White House to present our outstanding program to the President! We want all Arkansans (and especially Razorbacks) to support this fight against campus hunger.

This year, VAC will be holding another MADD event as part of the national day of service sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and the Hands on Network/Points of Light Foundation.
We have over 30 projects from many organizations all over Northwest Arkansas that Saturday morning. These projects will require over 800 volunteers. VAC will host a Kick-Off Breakfast that morning at 9:00 AM at the Union Mall. Then, the volunteers will head off to their projects for a few hours of service until the afternoon.
Over the years, MADD has engaged thousands of volunteers and helped offset the costs of hiring people for these organizations. If you would like to join us on October 29th, 2011 and volunteer, please visit our website and sign-up for a project! Email Hunter, vacint2@uark.edu, if you have any questions!

As the 10th year anniversary of 9/11 draws near, VAC wanted to share what the University of Arkansas has been doing to remember those who lost their lives that day. Razorbacks Remember was the theme for this week which included service projects on campus and in the community. The director for the Center for Community Engagement has written about her experience, what she remembers, and what she will do to commemorate those who have died. VAC has also created a video with staff and students at the university as a part of the national “I Will” campaign and photos of volunteers putting up flags on the Union Lawn can be found here.

“On September 11, 2001 I was at my office in Atlanta, Georgia, I was wrapping up a meeting; someone came in and said they needed to turn on the television. Right as the coverage began, a plane hit the second tower. It was the most surreal moment: cell service was immediately down, it was impossible to bring up news web pages, office buildings in downtown Atlanta were evacuated and train service was suspended- life as we knew it would never be the same.
Last night on September 5, 2011 I gathered with 28 other students, staff and faculty to place more than 2700 flags on the Union Mall, each one a reminder of someone who lost their life that day. The evening was poignant as we silently hammered each flag into its place; with the addition of each row the power of the flags became more apparent. And then I met Allison. Allison’s sister Sara Low was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and on 9-11-01 she lost her life while serving as a Flight Attendant on American Airlines Flight 11. The placement of each flag now had even more meaning, because now we we’re connected.
9-11 is now a National Day of Service, the Volunteer Action Center, along with RIC, ASG, Greek Life, UP and Athletics are hosting several events and opportunities to take time to participate in a service opportunity or an event.
So the question is, where were you on 9-11 and what will you do to honor those who died?
