Combined Heat & Power System

combined-heat-and-powerThe University of Arkansas completed installation of a Combined Heat & Power System in January of 2016. Located in the University’s Heating Plant, the system increases unit efficiency from 40% to 73%¹. The system allows for the creation of energy to power campus, while simultaneously generating heat.

Not only does this project have financial benefits, but it also decreases greenhouse gas emissions by making use of the exhaust from generating power. This project was highlighted as a part of the University of Arkansas’ Climate Action Plan as a major step in reducing the University’s footprint. An estimated 35,000 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent per year will be diverted from the atmosphere.

These types of exciting projects will continue to advance the University toward the goal of complete carbon neutrality while also saving the U of A money!
