This internship provides firsthand experience to students with a desire for learning the process of growing food on both a large (row farming) and/or small (hoop and green houses) scale operation while designing processes that conserve energy and minimize waste.
Offsite project ideas that engage the community and tackle logistical hurdles will also be considered.
About The Cobblestone Project
The Cobblestone Project mission is to grow fresh food locally so we can support and teach the community the role fresh food has on health, wellness and a sustainable future. We do this by working with various agencies in the community to reach those who are food insecure. We are a Certified Naturally Grown farm located on 10 acres in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with two hoop houses, one green house, a flock of 75 chickens, and seven cultivated acres of market vegetables, berries, and flowers.
Farm work varies seasonally, but can include any of the following: weeding, planting, harvesting, planning, packing, maintaining the chicken coop, hoop houses and greenhouse, and assisting with market and CSA delivery. If you have specific interests or skills you would like to pursue, let’s discuss ways for you to contribute.
Requirements and Working Conditions
We are looking for individuals with can-do attitudes, who are motivated and open to learning new skills. Prior experience is not required. This position requires physical stamina along with heat and/or cold tolerance, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time.
Fall 2016: Sept. 1st-Nov. 30th
Spring 2017: Feb. 1st-April 30th
Summer 2017: June 1st- Aug. 1st
Mondays-Fridays 8:00am-2:00pm. Flexible with class schedules. Can vary by season.
