ROTC cadets at the UA helped collect more than 700 thank-you letters for veterans who will be honored by a trip to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II Memorial.

Helen Snead, a nursing student and ROTC cadet, has put together a campaign to get letters from people around northwest Arkansas to thank veterans for their years of service to the United States, she said.

Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences welcomed 20 new faculty members for the fall semester, but a teacher shortage remains, UA administrators said.

UA students can take advantage of a new deadline to apply for the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship, officials said. The state Department of Higher Education extended the deadline to Sept. 20, for the 19,593 applicants whose applications were incomplete.
